Kansas seeing increase in flu illnesses

Flu is a contagious respiratory illness. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue.

As flu activity continues to rise, it is important to take everyday preventive actions to stop spread of illness. These include:

  • While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
  • If you are sick with flu-like illness, it's important to stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs.
