  2. Healthier Together Photo Gallery Final Friday Reception

    The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department and LiveWell Lawrence are displaying a photo gallery highlighting recent health advancements in Douglas County through Aug. 31 at Lawrence Public Library. In 2014, the Health Department received a three-year award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reduce chronic disease in Douglas County. Through the CDC award, the Health Department and LiveWell Lawrence focused their work on improving nutrition, increasing physical activity and reducing tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. The gallery highlights the success in the areas of Safe Routes to School, Farm to School and tobacco-free parks. The public is invited to a reception during Final Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the library, 707 Vermont St.

  3. Harvesters Mobile Food Distribution

    Mobile food pantry distributions are typically drive-through distributions that consist primarily of fresh produce, dairy items, and bakery items. They are open to anyone in need of food. No need to show proof of income or address. It is a “self-declared need” and people simply sign their name and let us know the number of people in their household.

    Do you like to walk or bike? Do you want to help make these activities safer in your neighborhood? Become a Safe Routes Champion! Learn how to empower your school and neighborhood to work together to set and achieve goals to keep students, neighbors and families safe when walking or biking! Hear from experts with the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. The event is sponsored by the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, Lawrence Pedestrian Coalition and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided.
