During Friday’s COVID-19 vaccine clinic at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and partners ran out of vaccine doses to complete booked appointments for 23 people. It was a second dose clinic for Phase 2 individuals who received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine in early February.
“We ran out of vaccine by the nature of how the vaccine has to be thawed and reconstituted. We were unable to quickly get additional doses for the day,” Director Dan Partridge said. “Those individuals who did not get their second dose today have been rescheduled for the next available clinic. We apologize to them and feel badly for that, and we will work harder to not have this happen again.”
The second dose clinic on Friday included administering 1,010 Moderna doses distributed to Phase 2 eligible, including residents 65 and older, and approximately 1,093 doses Pfizer second doses in the afternoon.
For those who have received their first dose of the vaccine, the second dose may be administered up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose.
